With the opening of another sushi restaurant
here in Sheepshead Bay soon, this will add to the already saturated sushi
restaurant business in the neighborhood. At this rate the area will be
nothing but sushi restaurants and pharmacies.
Is there something luring or lucrative about opening up a sushi restaurant I'm
not aware of? If so, why open up so many in such a small area? Do
people in this neighborhood prefer sushi more than other areas? Do people
still consider this exotic cuisine?
I once heard someone tell me that it's relatively easy to open up a Japanese
restaurant and the earnings are decent. That may be true, but with so
many in such a small area, competition is undoubtedly fierce. Why not
open up somewhere that isn't so saturated and the market is favorable?
Back to sushi restaurants in the neighborhood. It would be nice if
something else opened up. Heck, I'll even settle for franchised chain
restaurants like Sonic or Friendly's!
If we are to have so many restaurants, we should at least have some "sushi eating etiquette," heh.
